Markus Schwarzer

Co-Founder & CEO, Cyanite

Markus Schwarzer leads the global music AI company Cyanite as CEO. Cyanite was co-founded by Markus and business partners who met at renowned university for music business, the Popakademie Baden Württemberg, while studying their Masters in Music & Creative Industries.

Previously a label-founder and PR strategist for acts like Lenny Kravitz and Bonobo, Markus is a published writer on music business innovation and lecturer at various music business universities.

The urge to co-found Cyanite came from Markus' fascination with the power of music on our memory, when a song perfectly fits mood and moment. Inspired by this concept of music moments, the three Cyanite co-founders launched their first venture together. Named Groovecat, it enabled users to capture, save and share those special moments.

Soon, they realized the huge value in the data generated by the Groovecat app and started to build a business model around monetizing that data. Simultaneously, they discovered that a real problem exists in the process of choosing music for advertising, movies, games etc. They found out that a solution to this problem could be found in the algorithms being developed on Groovecat's data.

This formed the nucleus of Cyanite which was launched in 2019, led by Markus and his partners' vision of developing a universal intelligence that understands indexes and recommends the world's music.
