Jason Markey, an industry veteran with nearly three decades of experience, is making waves in the music and entertainment world. In 2023, he founded Sound Advice, a groundbreaking company aimed at empowering small production companies, producers, and streamers to pursue their music projects cost-effectively. Markey's mission is to remove the financial barriers that often hinder creative projects by providing innovative solutions.
His career journey began with grassroots efforts during high school, organizing DIY concerts in his family's San Fernando Valley backyard. Markey has since held diverse leadership roles in major-label A&R, marketing, publishing, syncs, soundtracks, and music supervision for major motion pictures and TV releases.
Markey served as General Manager at Immortal Records, where he played a pivotal role in launching the careers of bands like 30 Seconds to Mars and Hoobastank. He also worked with artists like Incubus and created genre-focused soundtrack albums for box-office franchises like Spawn.
Throughout his career, Markey has held key positions at renowned labels like Arista and American Recordings, collaborating with artists such as Patty Smith, Santana, and Sarah McLauchlan.
In 2008, he joined Relativity Media as EVP of Film/TV/Publishing and Soundtracks, making significant contributions to the music landscape for the company. Markey also founded Relativity Music Group, producing over 200 soundtracks for major Hollywood Studios and networks.
He continued his successful journey by becoming the Global President of Film/TV/Publishing and Soundtracks at STX Entertainment in 2015. There, he oversaw music for a range of film and TV projects, including hits like "Hustlers" and "Bad Moms."
Markey's involvement in various aspects of the music industry, from A&R to production and music supervision, has led to staggering sales, millions of streams, and numerous award nominations. He remains actively engaged in philanthropic endeavors and is dedicated to supporting education and music programs.
