John McGrew
Music Creative Production, Netflix Series Animation
John McGrew leads the Music Creative & Production (MCP) team for Netflix Series Animation, where he collaborates with and guides songwriters, composers, and artists working on a huge range of upcoming animated projects! From StoryBots to Devil May Cry to Dr. Seuss to Big Mouth, John oversees a wide gamut of shows and their musical styles, all meticulously curated to enchant and entertain target audiences of all ages...from spilled baby formula to spilled blood!
Prior to Netflix, McGrew led as Music Manager at Mattel TV, overseeing music for shows like He-Man Masters of the Universe, Thomas & Friends, Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures, plus dozens more! He also founded and performed with Brooklyn-based rock group, Apollo Run. Apollo Run released their debut full length album, Here Be Dragons, Vol. III, in September 2012, and they've released three additional EPs.
Currently, McGrew is working on an original dark fairy tale, The Village of the Vale, which had its theatrical world premiere at New York’s Lincoln Center in Fall 2017. His passion for musical theatre and musical storytelling has informed and inspired his work across medium and genre. He is always actively seeking out fresh, innovative voices to drive the sonic identity of tomorrow. And because he works in the world of animation production timelines, the sound of "tomorrow" means anticipating what 2025 will sound like...today. Or rather, yesterday. It's a challenge, a journey, and a joy. And John is ecstatic to share the travails and triumphs of all things music at MUSEXPO!
