Tyler Bacon founded Position Music in 1999. With over two decades of steady growth, including tripling revenue in the last five years, Position Music has become one of the largest, truly independent music publishing companies in the world.
Position was built on substantial synch activity, but now support a staff of 35—including an 11 person synch team and 10 person A&R team. Over its 23 year history, the company has evolved into a full-service music company. In addition to publishing, the company is also doing the foundational hard work of artist development with its indie label arm.
Tyler is passionate about building a company, team, and culture that is about doing the hard work:“I had the ‘luxury’ of NOT having money to start a company. There wasn’t the ability to pay large advances and acquire bigger copyrights. We had to build from scratch. It was about finding and creating opportunities to attract artists and writers,” says Bacon. “We still have that mentality in both synch and A&R, but now that is blended with the ability to invest in more established artists and writers.”
The label, distributed by AWAL, has had success upstreaming artists Welshly Arms (Platinum record “Legendary” - Universal) and TeaMarrr (Issa Rae’s Raedio/Atlantic joint venture). It is also home to Kid Bloom, Ryan Oakes, Layto, 2WEI, Dead Posey, Blackway, and others.
The publishing roster includes Harmony Samuels, Kid Bloom, No Love for the Middle Child, Kyle Reynolds, TeaMarrr, Welshly Arms, Judah & the Lion, ¿Téo?, Fantastic Negrito, Dru “Falconry” DeCaro, and Brandyn Burnett.
This past year, Position Music participated in a RIAA certified Platinum cut for Em Beihold's hit song “Numb Little Bug,” which stood atop the HOT A/C Radio charts for over a month this past summer. The company also had cuts on two other certified gold records with Rotimi's “In My Bed” and Sueco's “Paralyzed.”
The synch team’s recent activity includes brand spots with Samsung, Apple, Nissan, T-Mobile, Miller, UFC, NFL and Trailers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thor 4: Love and Thunder and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
