BigMama is Marianna Mammone's stage name, a clever wordplay on her surname. She was born in the year 2000 and grew up in a very small provincial town near Naples, before arriving in Milan in 2019. She is by far one of the most talented newcomers on the Italian music scene and she immediately established herself for her very direct style, that aims to raise awareness on important social themes by means of extreme flows and clever wordplay, that always gets straight to the point. Inspired by Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill but also Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes (vocalist of TLC) and Lizzo, BigMama approached the world of rap in 2013 when she began writing her first lyrics and recording them in her bedroom. Her first song, "Charlotte", was published in 2016, when she was just 16. In 2020, after moving to Milan, she was noticed by Pluggers, a young independent label and Red Bull Italy included her name on the list of top rap artists to watch. Her rise was inevitable: in 2022 she began the year with a collabo with Zalando's #voceallostile campaign, a huge OOO campaign, and in April 2022 her first EP "Next Big Thing" was released, a demonstration of all her strong character that allowed her to overcome the most difficult tests. On May 1st, Italy's Labour Day, she was invited to the "Concertone" in Rome and she ended up on the front page of all of Italy's top websites after her speech on body positivity, criticizing the bullying of which she was a victim, went viral on social media platforms. During the summer of the same year BigMama started her first live tour, with over twenty shows in some of Italy's biggest festivals. In 2023 she took part of Sanremo 2023, Italy's biggest tv event, as a guest together with Elodie, one of Italy's biggest popstars, and on February 24th she released her new single "Ma che hit" produced by Damiank followed by "Bloody Mary " produced by ITACA and continued touring become a festival favourite. Recently Spotify selected her for their Equal campaign on the billboards of Times Square in New York and now BigMama is ready to light up the Ariston stage at the 2024 Sanremo Festival: this time as one of the main artists. | |||||||
