The 6th annual MUSEXPO kicks off this month, April 25-28 at the five-star London West Hollywood Hotel in West Hollywood. The confab will bring together some of the most influential executives from around the world who are shaping the future of the global music business. This year’s event will host 30 artists from 14 countries and welcome delegates from three dozen countries on five continents. As always, MUSEXPO focuses on the music first and business is a natural second. “MUSEXPO has always been about those who discover and develop music and those who are helping shape the future of the global music business in a positive and inspiring manner,” says A&R Worldwide and MUSEXPO Founder Sat Bisla.

Polow Da Don
|
There’s a smorgasbord of global music influencers joining this year’s event lineup who are shaping the future of the global music business. A few others have just been added to the impressive MUSEXPO lineup, including Polow Da Don. Da Don has quickly built a career that ensures his moniker won’t be easily forgotten. Emerging as the next hot super-producer, in 2005 Polow produced “DJ Play a Love Song” by Jamie Foxx and that same year, Ludacris’ “Pimpin’ All Over the World.” Polow’s beats are sometimes just as outré as his chosen name; artists he’s worked with include Pussycat Dolls, Fergie, Kelly Rowland, Usher, T.I., Keri Hilson, 50 Cent, Chris Brown and the new single “Not Myself Tonight” from Christina Aguilera.

|
Rob Stevenson
|
Also added to the lineup is President of Virgin US Rob Stevenson, who brings to his key creative role at EMI in America not only one of the industry’s strongest track records in signing and breaking new artists, but also a keen digital acumen. Appointed in July 2008 and based in New York, Rob oversees EMI’s label rosters in the US, including such artists as Alice in Chains, Beastie Boys, Norah Jones, Katy Perry, Saving Abel and more.
Rob was formerly Exec. VP A&R at Universal’s Island Def Jam, where he signed and developed artists that have sold 26 million albums worldwide, including Fall Out Boy, The Killers, The Bravery, Sum 41, Lady Sovereign and Saliva. During this time he was also President of boutique label Stolen Transmission, a joint venture imprint with IDJMG.
LEADING MUSIC MINDS TO FOCUS ON FUTURE OF ARTIST DEVELOPMENT
Some of the world’s most impressive music leaders and A&R mindsets will converge together at the London West Hollywood Hotel during A&R Worldwide’s Global A&R Forum at MUSEXPO for discussions on shaping the future for artists and their development. Given all the hype of technology companies’ impact on artist development over the past 20 years, the sad fact remains that not one technology company (even with most having millions and in some cases billions of dollars in market value) has managed to successfully develop and/or break 1 (one) single act globally. In fact, MySpace Records recently closed its offices due to its inability to develop and break talent as successfully as it had hoped. The fact of the matter is, no one discovers, develops or breaks acts globally as well as music companies (labels), managers and in some cases publishers.
Ron Fair, Chairman, Geffen Records--one of the most successful, respected and brilliant music minds in the world--will moderate an incredible lineup of A&R and music business minds that will include Craig Kallman, Chairman/CEO, Atlantic Records Group; Daniel Glass, President, Glassnote Records; David Massey, President, Mercury/Island; Jason Flom, President, Lava/Universal, Korda Marshall, President, Infectious Records (UK & Europe) and Nick Gatfield, President New Music, EMI Records (N. America, UK & Ireland).
These music men and executive minds have collectively signed and developed acts that have sold well over one billion albums, singles, downloads and ring-tones combined (realistically that figure is closer to two billion as of this writing). If you were to add the consumption of music from the acts the aforementioned music executives have A&R’d, we’re talking many billions of impressions (legal and illegal) worldwide.
The Global A&R Forum will discuss the future of artist development, new innovations on both the creative and business ends as well as the overall health of the music ecosystem. At the end of the session, delegates will have an opportunity (at the discretion of Ron Fair) to have some of their music heard by some of these incredible sets of ears on the Global A&R Forum panel at MUSEXPO.
LADY GAGA WORLDWIDE MANAGER, ONE OF EUROPE’S MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSIC MINDS & LEADING AUSTRALIAN TASTEMAKER JOIN GLOBAL MUSIC COMMUNITY

|
Troy Carter
|
Troy Carter, Founder, Chairman & CEO, Coalition Media Group (and worldwide manager of Lady GaGa) rarely makes appearances at music industry events; however, the global decision-makers at MUSEXPO will hear first-hand from one of the most creative managers and marketers in the worldwide music business. Carter is responsible for establishing the careers of numerous recording artists, including multi-Platinum Grammy Award winner Lady GaGa. On March 15, 2010, Billboard announced that the second single from The Fame Monster, “Telephone,” reached No.1 on the Pop songs chart, becoming not only Lady GaGa’s sixth No.1 on the chart, but her sixth consecutive No.1, making her the only artist in history to do so. Troy began his career in Philadelphia working for Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment. In 1995 he joined Bad Boy Entertainment in the marketing department under Sean “Diddy” Combs and worked with groundbreaking artists such as Notorious B.I.G. Troy formed the boutique urban talent management company Erving Wonder in 1999 and it quickly became one of the preeminent artist management firms, representing hip-hop/R&B stars Eve, Floetry and Nelly, among others.

MUSEXPO organizers intend to keep the event intimate, inspiring and informative; after all, this year’s theme is “inspiration and innovation.” The event will retain a similar ethos to the A&R Worldwide networking dinners started back in 2001, which have inspired many other conferences around the world and are the foundation of what MUSEXPO’s ideology is all about.
